The group training co-ordinator assists with the preparation of a training needs analysis for member companies as well as developing and co-ordinating existing members' training plans. All traditional construction skills are includes as well as more general company training needs including Management, IT and other administrative duties.
Training courses can also be set up as short notice to meet contractual and legislative requirements faced by member companies.
Regular group meeting provide a useful forum for debate on new legislation and contractor issues including specialist expert sessions in the field of Health & Safety.
The Role of Training Groups
Construction industry training groups have been established by Construction Skills to bring together like-minded companies with a commitment to improving competitiveness through training.
Three training groups are established in the North East to meet the training needs of the Construction, Civil Engineering and Roofing Sectors.
Members of the groups take an active part in promoting training within their companies at all levels and are expected to commit by the development of training plans. The groups are supported by training co-ordinators who are able to organise tailored training courses on behalf of members.
The Training Groups are grant aided by Construction Skills and members can gain access to special rates for local courses as well as Construction Skills grants.
Improving Performance
Construction Skills recognises that better motivated staff, improved morale, retaining a skilled workforce and increasing productivity are critical to improving performance in the construction industry. They also believe that effective training is the key route to these benefits and has secured special funding assistance from the European Social Fund to support dedicated training groups aimed at meeting the specialist training needs of different sectors of the construction industry.
The training groups play a central role in identifying skills and training needs, developing training plans and organising and booking training courses.
The groups also actively promote the uptake of the Investors in People (IiP) Award among member companies as a means of helping them secure their long-term competitiveness in the industry.
In addition, the groups promote access to the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card for employees of member companies.
